Potato Pooriyal Recipe

Pooriyal is a side dish for Poori. Pooriyal is a simple South Indian recipe made from potatoes and onions. potato poriyal is best served with poori or dosa.

I have shared a pooriyal recipe in a step by step method with a detailed pictures below.

Wash the potatoes. Boil potatoes using pressure cook for about 2-3 whistle or cook using microwave for about 8-10 minutes. once it cools down peel the skin off from the potato.

In a wok or kadai heat oil add mustard seeds when it begin to splutter add curry leaves and urad dal/ black lentils. Stir and saute till the dals become golden.

Add chopped onions and salt saute till the onions changes its color transparent.

Add green chilies and turmeric powder. Stir well.

Now add potatoes and stir very well. cover and simmer the potato for 4-5 minutes on a low flame.

The potatoes should combine evenly with the onion mixture.

Now add fresh chopped coriander leaves. Serve Potato poriyal with pooris or dosa.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 large potatoes
  • 3 large onions
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt as needed
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal(split black gram lentils)
  • 2 tablespoon fresh chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon oil

INSTRUCTIONS
