How to make Pita bread at home | Pita Bread recipe

This homemade Pita bread is easy to make . I have shared how to make pita bread on stove top with basic ingredients available at home . It is soft , chewy, light and has their trademark pockets . Pita bread is served with falafel , hummus and raw veggies as snacks .

I have shared pita bread in step by step method with detailed pictures below .

In a bowl add 1/2 cup of warm water , sprinkle a pinch of sugar then add 1/2 tablespoon of yeast.

Keep aside for 10-15 minutes at room temperature to let the yeast to be frothed.

In a large bowl add 3 cups of whole wheat flour.

Add warm water , salt and olive oil.

once the yeast has frothed add the yeast mixture and knead into a soft smooth dough.

Cover with a lid or kitchen napkin . Keep at room temperature for 2 hours once the dough has doubled up ,this is how dough looks after 2 hours duration time . The dough appears crack in spite of being little extra moist.

Deflate the dough gently. Knead the dough again gently then make medium sized balls from the dough keep these covered again for 10 minutes .

Roll the dough balls by dusting some flour . You can roll in the shape of poori . Keep the bread little thick covered loosely for 10 more minutes

Heat a tava or non stick pan . Place the bread on the hot tawa cover with a lid for 2-3 minutes.

Flip the other side by placing the bread on the fire and see them puff , cook both sides

Stack pita bread and store in kitchen towel . Just slice pita bread into two . You will see the pockets . I had stuffed coleslaw salad ( Coleslaw Dressing Recipe ). 

Add Hummus to the pita bread, you can also serve with your favorite stuffing
