Nishasta is easily made from almonds and rice . The longer the almonds soaks the creamier the paste will be, You can then add a sweetener, cardamom and cinnamon stick. Its a very healthy drink prepared especially during Ramadan.

I have shared nishasta recipe in step by step method with a detailed picture below.

Soak almonds in a hot water and soak basmati rice seperately for 30-40 minutes. Peel the almond skin off.

Place the almonds in a hand blender blend roughly

Now add basmati rice blend almond and basmati rice together. Blend high for 2 minutes. Add water blend again to make a creamy and smooth paste.

I have prepared extra paste to store for later use. Fill the paste in two to three small containers.

In a vessel heat ghee add cardamom and cinnamon stick saute for a minute now pour lukewarm milk

Pour the rest of the almond paste to the milk stir continously to avoid any lumps. Boil the milk on a medium flame.

Cook the nishasta until the milk are in thick consistency. Now add sugar stir gently until the sugar dissolves.

 pour the nishasta in a bowl or glass serve warm or cold as per your preference.

INGREDIENTS

  • 30- 35 almonds
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup basmati rice

  • 500 ml milk
